The Face Lift Procedure

Face lift involves the tightening of skin and muscles along the lower face and neck, as well as the removal of excess skin. Tracy and San Ramon face lift patients generally have incisions placed in areas where they are minimally visible. The objective is to elevate the underlying structures and redrape the skin on the face in order to give a more youthful, healthy, and rested appearance. Dr. McNemar performs cosmetic face lift surgery on an outpatient basis, although some patients prefer to take advantage of the extended stay unit. The discomfort associated with a face lift is usually minimal to moderate. Bruising and swelling are expected and will resolve in 10 days to 2 weeks following the surgery. As with any plastic surgery procedure, the healing process with a facelift is gradual and final results may not be apparent for several weeks, but the benefits from the surgery will last for years.

This procedure improves the aging face to correct sagging jowls, neck, and mid-face creating a more youthful, rested appearance. Typical incisions begin within the hairline, above the temple and continue along or just inside the ear, ending behind the ear. This allows access to tighten underlying tissue, remove excess fat, and reduce sagging skin. A second incision under the chin may sometimes be necessary. If skin tone is good and only mid-face aging or excess fat in the neck will be corrected, abbreviated techniques with shorter incisions may be used. Liposuction techniques may assist with removal of fat deposits.

Local anesthesia with sedation is often used, though general anesthesia may be recommended. Many face lift patients from Walnut Creek, Stockton, Modesto and beyond combine their procedure with eyelid surgery, forehead lift, wrinkle reduction by fat injection, or chemical peel. Final results of your procedure should become apparent in 1 to 2 months. Incision lines should continue to refine and fade for up to 1 year, and the appearance of scarring can be minimized through restricted sun exposure in conjunction with resurfacing techniques.
