"Dr. McNemar and his office staff were very personable and responsive to my needs. I would recommend Dr. McNemar to anyone." – Deborah Laser Hair Removal in Northern California
IPL hair removal is popular because it is faster and more affordable than laser hair removal. Northern California residents trust Dr. McNemar to help them create a smooth look free of unwanted hair. If you would like to learn more about permanent hair reduction using IPL technology, click here to request your consultation online with Dr. Thomas McNemar, a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in laser hair removal in Northern California. How IPL Laser Hair Removal WorksThe IPL device emits a high-energy beam of light that is absorbed by hair follicles, where the light energy is transformed into heat. This heat destroys the hair follicle but does not harm the surrounding skin. It is important to note that the laser energy only will affect hairs in an active growth phase - at any point in time between 10 to 15% of hairs may not be actively growing. All hairs can be treated when a patient comes in for a series of visits, with later visits targeting hairs that were dormant during previous treatments. What to ExpectDuring IPL hair removal, very short pulses of light are transmitted to the treatment area, minimizing the potential for damage to surrounding skin and tissues. Some discomfort may occur during the pulses of light, but a topical anesthetic can minimize any discomfort. After treatment, some minor skin irritation and redness may occur but should not last for an extended period of time. For the first 7 to 30 days after treatment, hair may look like it is continuing to grow but in fact this is a sign that the hair is being expelled by the skin. A significant benefit of IPL is the short treatment time - less than 15 minutes for areas of the face and bikini line, and under an hour in most cases for larger areas such as the legs and back. Dr. McNemar has had success treating patients with a wide variety of skin types and hair colors, and sees a mix of both men and women coming in for laser hair removal treatments. IPL for Laser Resurfacing & Vein TreatmentThe technology that can achieve permanent hair reduction also is an excellent option for women and men with "photoaged" skin - wrinkles, sunspots, enlarged pores and broken blood vessels near the surface of the skin. The IPL energy rejuvenates the skin from within and encourages new cellular growth, so you can enjoy skin that not only looks younger, but actually is younger. Unlike traditional treatments such as microdermabrasion and stronger chemical peels, IPL resurfacing can create a freshened look without downtime. The IPL system Dr. McNemar uses also is an effective option for spider veins and can even improve the appearance of varicose veins in many cases. These veins respond to the specially-targeted pulses of light, causing coagulation of the blood in the veins and gradual disintegration of the veins themselves. This treatment has no harmful effect on circulatory health or surrounding tissue.
