Drainless Tummy Tuck
Dr. McNemar is the first surgeon in the area to offer a drainless tummy tuck option for qualified patients. This modified version of the surgery uses internal sutures between the abdominal wall and the skin of the abdomen to close the ”open space“ created during surgery, reducing the likelihood that fluid will build up and cause swelling—and, best of all, eliminating the need for surgical drains.
Patients who undergo drainless abdominoplasty often say their recuperations are faster and more comfortable than they anticipated. This technique is also linked to fewer incidences of certain complications. Keep in mind that a drainless tummy tuck is more technically challenging and isn’t an appropriate option for all patients.
During your consultation, you and Dr. McNemar will discuss whether this approach is a good match for you.
Patient Stories
I am very happy I finally decided to remove my excess skin from my last child. It was less stress for the healing process with the drainless tuck. I had drains before, after a previous surgery, and I was really glad not to have that hassle. My confidence has already improved and the pain was definitely worth it!

A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that redefines the contours of the abdomen through the following improvements:
- Tightening loose skin
- Repairing stretched and separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti)
- Contouring the waistline
- Reshaping the belly button
Each year, the number of tummy tuck patients increases. Most of those having the procedure are women; however, more men are having tummy tucks as well. After your abdominoplasty, you’ll return home with a flatter, more attractive abdomen.
Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction
Liposuction is strictly a fat removal surgery; it eliminates stubborn fat that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise. Liposuction doesn’t correct loose skin or bulging abdominal muscles like a tummy tuck. Many people need a combination of liposuction and a tummy tuck. Dr. McNemar used liposuction alone on these patients because their skin had good elasticity and their abdominal muscles were intact.

What Is a Mini Tummy Tuck?
A traditional tummy tuck uses an incision that stretches from hip to hip, as well as an additional incision around the belly button, to address loose tissue above and below the belly button and to tighten stretched abdominal muscles.
A modified abdominoplasty, sometimes called a mini tummy tuck, uses a shorter incision just above the pubic region. In some cases, Dr. McNemar may recommend this procedure for patients whose aesthetic concerns are limited to the area below the belly button. A good candidate for a mini tummy tuck is also someone who has remained in fairly good shape and has strong abdominal muscles, but can’t get rid of the excess skin or belly fat through exercise and dieting. A mini tummy tuck doesn’t involve an incision around the belly button and isn’t used to repair abdominal muscles stretched by pregnancy or excessive weight.
The Added Benefits of Tummy Tuck
But a tummy tuck goes beyond what liposuction can achieve. The procedure also creates a smoother tummy surface by removing loose skin and stretch marks. And the procedure can actually tighten stretched-out muscles of the abdominal wall (or more accurately, the connective tissues called fascia that cover the muscles), instantly creating a more defined waistline. In addition to removing lumps and bulges, a tummy tuck may also help you shed feelings of self-consciousness about the shape of your body. Following the procedure, you may feel comfortable enough to wear a bathing suit, or you may find that you can slip into jeans you haven’t worn in a decade.

Can a tummy tuck be combined with other procedures?
Yes. In fact, the Mommy Makeover combination of aesthetic surgical procedures typically includes breast enhancement and liposuction, along with a tummy tuck. Patients who have lost a significant amount of weight through bariatric surgery or lifestyle changes also may have multiple post-weight loss procedures performed along with a tummy tuck to complete their personal transformations.
How long does it take to recover after a tummy tuck?
Each patient’s recovery is unique, but there are some general guidelines you can follow. It’s a good idea to take 2 weeks off work after your procedure. You won’t be able to stand straight during the first 4 or 5 days following surgery, but Dr. McNemar advises patients to gently walk around the house a few times a day to promote healing and good circulation. Special tight-fitting garments should be worn for the first several weeks, and you shouldn’t expect to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds during your recovery. Detailed postoperative instructions are provided to each patient to help during the healing process.
How much does a tummy tuck cost?
The price of a tummy tuck varies depending on the extent of the surgery, whether it’s combined with other treatments, and several other factors. In other words, it’s difficult to provide a specific cost for a tummy tuck online. Dr. McNemar understands that cost is an important factor for patients, and he is dedicated to offering competitive pricing for the Bay Area region. Our practice also offers convenient financing options for qualified patients.
